My family (wife, son - 12, & daughter - 14) vacationed 6 nights, from August 2010, at the Ritz Carlton, San Juan, Puerto Rico and experienced far more than expected accommodations and especially service. It is to note that we typically lodge in three (3) star hotels; this time however having the opportunity to consider a five (5) star via a wonderful last minute relatively affordable package (flight & hotel) through web. From the moment we arrived at the Ritz to our departure, we received outstanding greetings and service from each of the hotel’s service representatives we encountered, despite “it’s their job”. It is understood why one considers higher dollar hotels (for the most part), thereby receiving a high level of respect and in-turn value. We did find the food/drink expense to be unreasonably high, whereby we primarily patronized walking distance eating establishments providing an opportunity to potentially mix with the locals. One example of the outstanding service we received is as follows: at 1:00 am our son became ill; we called the front desk for Pepto Bizmo, whereby the service agent made arrangements for security to open the gift-store, retrieve the medicine, and deliver to our room all in less than 10 minuets. Then our son heaved on the carpet, we called guest services and again is less than 10 minutes staff cleaned the mess; more than pleased we were. The only downside we encountered was my wife had a small issue with the bed firmness, whereby guest services was very accommodating with improving this matter. We highly recommend the Ritz Carlton if ya’l and muster the expense. We may not have the future ability to afford the Ritz on a somewhat frequent basis, but we will certainly save our money to treat ourselves more .

I can't say enough good things about the experience my family had at the Ritz Carlton in San Juan. We went to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday and our Anniversary which are both in the month of July. From the moment we arrived until the minute we left, the service and atmosphere was second to none. Everyone who worked at the hotel would greet you with a sincere hello at every encounter with us. Front desk and concierge desk were the best we have ever encountered. The hotel sent us a Birthday/Anniversary cake to our room one night with a cork screw/ bottle plug as a gift. Once the hotel found out it was my daughter's birthday they tried to organize some member's of the staff who played in a band to sing but when they were unable to do that, we found after we returned from dinner that night, balloons attatched to a Ritz sport bottle as a gift for her. We booked under the Reconnect package which gave us two adult breakfast buffets and $* daily credit to use in almost any way on the property, so our kid's breakfast, our lunch and poolside drinks were essentially covered by this everyday. The rooms were well maintained and large. Housekeeping came by once to clean and once to turn down each night. When we were there and told them we wouldn't need turndown service, they left a message on our room phone making sure that there was nothing else that we needed. We have stayed at the likes of the Southampton Princess in Bermuda and the Four Seasons in various cities and by far, the Ritz Carlton here in San Juan surpasses them all. Enjoy the time spent here while in San Juan.

There are no details left unattended. It was a lovely stay that far exceeded expectations. From the staff to the onsite restaurants to the location and lovely rooms as well as security ... everything has been well thought out and needs anticipated. It was a lovely stay. We will back.

My family and I stayed at the Ritz 12/15-12/19. Check in and Check out time was ridiculous; felt I lost 'vacation time' just waiting to get my room keys and check out. Heard other travelers state disappointment. We had a room with an ocean view window, but the window was so filthy we couldn't see out of it - went downstairs and PAID EXTRA for an ocean view w/balcony. The room was small and bathroom very outdated. And, the bedding needs to be replaced - had back aches every night. Was extremely disappointed w/cleaning staff. Did not vacuum the sleeping area, and the bathroom floor was NEVER cleaned/mopped. Looked like there was dried blood near the light switch in the bathroom. The staff needs to take time to have the room clean and presentable; especially at the rate the Ritz charges. While many can afford their high rate, this was a treat for my family. Due to a flight cancellation, had to stay on extra night in San Juan and went across the street to a Hampton property -- clean, great pool area and very reasonably priced at $*/night. (Down side is the Hampton property is not located directly on the beach).
