We are from AZ & this was our very first trip to Puerto Rico. We stayed at the InterContinental San Juan for a full week. The Hotel is VERY nice, but the staff is even NICER. The reason why we chose this hotel was because of the other reviews I read here. We don't have family in PR & we don't know people who live or are from PR, so we had to rely on other people's reviews. I also called the hotel prior to booking to ask a few questions & the staff was very courteous over the phone. When we arrived, everyone treated us like VIP. They have a lot of employees ready to attend guests' needs at any time. The pool area/beach front is beautiful & the location of the hotel is the best. We were within walking distance from nightclubs & restaurants. Also, if you stay there, you have to go talk the concierge, it's a must, he is EXCELLENT. I read in other reviews about Nestor, so I looked for him, & I confirmed what everyone else said in their reviews, he is GREAT! We didn't book any tours or rental car prior to going, but at the hotel they have a desk for booking them. We ended up renting a car and booking a snorkeling tour. The lady at the rental car desk, was very upbeat and efficient, I loved talking to her, as well as the concierge, and a bell boy. I recommend this hotel to everyone, the staff is GREAT, they are helpful, polite, cheerful, the hotel is beautiful, & the food is delicious!!

The hotel was great. Clean, friendly and helpful staff. Top Notch all the way. The pools are incredible and you have direct access to the beach with free lounge chairs provided. Don't worry about beach towels either. The hotel provides beach towels free of charge and they are of the big and fluffy variety. The restaurants in the hotel are too expensive for my taste but there is great local food within walking distance. Try Don Jose's for dinner (out of the hotel turn left and it's about 6 blocks away) the prices are very reasonable and the food is great. Just across from the hotel in the plaza to the right is a small place call Mi Casita. It's also a great place to try the local food. There are small refrigerators in the rooms, at least there was in my room. We went to the grocery nearby and stocked it with drinks and sandwich supplies for the beach and saved a bundle. Seek out a guy named R on the beach in front of Hotel San Juan right next door. He earns his living selling baskets and hats he makes from palms. He knows more about the area than anyone else you'll meet and he's more than happy to share tips with you on good places to see and eat. Trust him, he won't steer you wrong!

The location for this Hotel is, Carolina, not San Juan. We booked the Laguna View room and there is no such thing. Their Laguna-view room is actually a City-view room. You may be able to catch a glimpse of the Laguna a few miles away!. The hotel is beautiful. The staf there is friendly. Prices are extremely expensive - not worth it. The rooms are ok; they can use a major cleaning. Not much is in the area as far as entertainment. The restaurant, Mi Casita, across the street is a great deal and the place is clean and the food is good. During our stay in May 2010, we experienced a big earthquake, 5.8. Right after it occured, I called the front desk to confirm if we had an earthquake and the woman who answered just laughed and said, "uh, no?". Do not book the biolumenescent tour. They are a rip off and located in the barrio of Fajardo. Very ghetto and unsanitary.

I just returned very sorry I had to leave the room was nice and clean. One the ladies at the tours counter was not that great she really did not seem that interested in any thing else than selling tours but every one else was fantastic. They are very helpful eager to answere any question you might have even go out of their way to find out for you if they dont have the answere. Stores restaurants and bus stops nearby you can take the bus to old San Juan for * cents or a cab for * dollars. Only two bus routes go by the hotel route A5 and C53 both take you to Old San Juan you get off at the last stop which is the terminal and you can take the same ones back. I only ate once at the pool side bar beacause like any other hotel their restaurants are expensive but that was pretty good. Beautiful pool area with plenty of room and the beach area is nice too. If I can go back I will definately stay here again.

Just got back. Spent 4 nights early May 2010. Rooms were ok - not what is expected of a fine resort hotel. The carpets smelled and the bathrooms were inadequate. Wouldn't stay there again. Balconies looked unsafe.
